Who are the Friends?

The mission of the Friends of the Alaska State Museum is to enhance and support the effectiveness of the Alaska State Museum in its task of collecting, preserving, and interpreting Alaska's rich and diverse cultural heritage for present and future generations.

For over 25 years, the Friends have diligently supported the Museum by:

  • Sponsoring cultural and educational programs and events;

  • Recruiting and managing volunteer support for museum functions and staff;

  • Producing publications, catalogs, exclusive museum products, educational information kits, videos, and films relating to special exhibits and themes of the permanent collection;

  • Hosting receptions for exhibit openings and other events;

  • Purchasing artifacts and artwork for the museum’s collection;

  • Providing educational interpretation to the public by effective management of the Museum Store; and

  • Responding with assistance to special projects as requested by the museum.

Benefits of being a Friend member include free admission for the member and a guest to the Alaska State Museum in Juneau and the Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka, a discount at both museum stores, a Friends newsletter, educational opportunities and invitations to exhibition openings and other special events.
